Three out of every ten euros spent on this day were online, and one-third of digital purchases used MB WAY.

On Black Friday, the amount spent on online purchases increased by 126% compared to the daily average for November, with an average ticket of €54. Data provided by SIBS Analytics indicates that the total amount spent on purchases increased by 79% compared to the entire month of November 2025 and 38% compared to Black Week. Looking only at purchases in physical stores, consumers spent 64% more than in the rest of the month and 25% more than on Black Week. Online, this increase was more significant, with Portuguese consumers spending 126% more on Black Friday and 46% more during Black Week than in the entire month of November.

The average ticket spent on 28 November was €41, which is €8 above the daily average spent on the other days of November and €4 above the amount spent during Black Week.

During Black Week, the amount spent on physical purchases made using MB WAY increased by 24% in physical stores and 56% in online purchases, compared to November. On Black Friday, this growth was even more significant, with Portuguese consumers paying 65% more via MB WAY in physical stores and 138% more online on this day, compared to the rest of the month. It should be noted that one in three purchases was made using this payment method.

SIBS Analytics data also shows that 30% of the total value of purchases made on Black Friday were online. In terms of numbers, it should be noted that of the total purchases made on Black Friday, one in four was online.

In terms of product type, on the last Friday in November, fashion was the sector that grew the most, with an increase of almost 184% in the number of purchases compared to the month of November. This was followed by Recreational and Sports Equipment, with a variation of 141%; Beauty Products, Cosmetics and Perfumes, with a 140% increase in the number of purchases; and Culture and Entertainment, with a variation of 57% compared to November.

The data analyzed also shows us that there are three types of consumer profiles this Friday. ‘The Shooter’ is the most rational consumer, who already knew what they wanted to buy and, on the day, compared prices and chose to purchase. This profile corresponds to 65% of cards and is characterized by having made only one purchase, with an average ticket of €58.

As the name suggests, ‘The Moderate’ is the consumer profile that takes advantage of discounts in a controlled manner and makes, on average, 2 to 3 purchases with an expenditure of €51. This corresponds to 28% of the cards that made purchases during this period. The Marathon Runner is the consumer who made 4 or more purchases (corresponding to 7% of cards), with an average value of €46.

Other indicators considered relevant in the annex may be analyzed.

SIBS once again participated in the Web Summit as the Exclusive Cashless Event Partner, ensuring digital payments throughout the event, which took place from 10 to 13 November in Lisbon. This year’s participation was marked not only by the operation of the entire cashless infrastructure – with over 250 terminals distributed across 80 points of sale and 55 merchants – but also by leading a European debate on sovereignty and innovation in payments, reinforcing SIBS’s position as a sector leader.

Analysing the operations within the Web Summit venue, SIBS recorded 64,466 transactions (-18% compared to 2024) with an average ticket of €13.07 (+6% compared to 2024). In the 2024 edition, 78,226 transactions were made with an average value of €12.30.

At Web Summit 2025, cards from 115 different nationalities were registered, with 72% of the purchase and withdrawal transactions carried out by foreign nationals. In the top countries of origin, the United Kingdom again took first place, accounting for 11.7% of foreign transactions, followed by Germany (8.1%), the USA (6.4%), Spain (6.2%), and Brazil (6.1%).

Across the three days of the event, lunchtime (1 p.m.) was the period with the highest volume of transactions. The first day, 11 November, stands out with 6,169 transactions, followed by 5,044 transactions on 12 November at the same time. The last day, 13 November, recorded 3,502 transactions at 1 p.m.

The event had a positive impact on the economy of the Lisbon district, particularly in terms of foreign card transactions. Data provided by SIBS Analytics shows that, focusing solely on foreign card operations, the value of transactions increased by 6.4%, and the number of transactions grew by 10.2% compared to the previous week.

The hospitality sector leads in terms of activity by foreign nationals, accounting for +43% of the total number of purchases. Supermarkets follow with +20% of transactions, and Transport services with +4%. As for the average ticket, it was €33 in total. If we isolate only the foreign card data, this average value was also €33, representing a €1 decrease in both cases compared to the week before the Web Summit.

Despite this, the average transaction value was 39€ – 3€ less than during the same period last year.
Looking at total foreign spending in Portugal, Spanish tourists led the way, accounting for 18% of transactions, followed by visitors from the UK (14%), French (12%), United States (7%) and Brazil (5%), compared to the same period last year.

In broader terms, the number of purchases and withdrawals in Portugal increased by 5% compared to the same period last year, with an average spend of €38. Physical purchases made via MB WAY grew significantly, with a 32% increase in number and an average spend of €21.

With regard to physical purchases in supermarkets, the Portuguese spent an average of €29 over the Easter period – €2 less than the average daily amount spent from the previous weekend through Wednesday. From Thursday to Saturday, before Easter Sunday, there was a 27% increase in supermarket purchases on Thursday, 38% on Friday and 47% on Saturday, compared to the daily average between April 12 and 16.

During Easter week (April 14-20), Lisbon and Porto experienced slight declines in physical purchases and withdrawals, down 6% and 3% respectively. This suggests a growing preference for rural or inland destinations, due to the increase in transactions in districts such as Guarda (+16%), Bragança and Beja (both +12%), Castelo Branco (11%) and Viseu (10%), compared to the previous week.

Among the Portuguese who traveled to destinations in Portugal more than 50 km from their cities, Viseu stood out, with an increase of 166% in physical consumption by Lisbon residents and 47% by Porto residents. Faro also experienced notable growth, with a 95% increase in operations carried out by Lisbon residents and 62% from those based in Porto.
Portuguese travelers who ventured abroad over Easter contributed to an 11% increase in physical purchases and withdrawals outside Portugal. While the total value of these transactions rose by 2% compared to the previous year, the average spend, now at €45, showed a slight drop of €4 compared to Easter 2024. Spain led the way as the preferred destination, accounting for 34% of total Portuguese consumption abroad, followed by France (19%), Italy (7%), the Netherlands and Belgium (5%).

On Easter Sunday, the restaurant sector experienced an increase in the number and value of transactions compared to the previous year, 5% and 10% respectively. The average value also showed a positive variation, rising by €1 to reach €31
