During this vacation period, the average transaction amount was \u20ac38, and one in every six transactions on the MULTIBANCO network was made with a foreign card.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the analysis of the various sectors, Leisure stood out, recording a significant increase of 20% in the number of transactions and 7% in value compared to 2025. The Restaurant sector also showed a positive trend, with growth of 10% in the number of transactions and 8% in value.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Looking ahead to 2025, spending by foreign tourists in Portugal increased by 5% in the number of transactions and 1% in value, with an average transaction value of \u20ac39. Tourists from France (19%), the United Kingdom (14%), Spain (12%), Germany (7%), and the U.S. (7%) contributed most to this growth, representing the top five countries in terms of the share of transactions in total foreign spending in Portugal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sibsanalytics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/Infografia-EN-2-1024x1024.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4044\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sibsanalytics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/Infografia-EN-2-1024x1024.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.sibsanalytics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/Infografia-EN-2-300x300.png 300w, https:\/\/www.sibsanalytics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/Infografia-EN-2-150x150.png 150w, https:\/\/www.sibsanalytics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/Infografia-EN-2-768x768.png 768w, https:\/\/www.sibsanalytics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/Infografia-EN-2.png 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With regard to Portuguese tourists, both in Portugal and abroad, there was a 6% increase in the number of transactions and a 3% increase in spending compared to 2025, with an average amount of \u20ac37. Spain stands out as the destination of choice for Portuguese travelers, accounting for 13% of transactions, an 11% increase compared to 2025. Portuguese travelers heading to this vacation destination came mainly from the districts of Lisbon (6%) and Porto (5%). In second place as a preferred vacation destination for Portuguese travelers is the District of Faro with 12% (5% less than in 2025), with Portuguese tourists coming mainly from the districts of Lisbon (10%) and Set\u00fabal (3%). Lisbon was the third most popular destination for Portuguese travelers, also at 12% (a 2% increase), chosen by people from the districts of Porto (5%) and Braga (3%). Porto was the fourth most popular vacation destination for Portuguese travelers, accounting for 6% of transactions (down 1% from 2025), welcoming tourists from Lisbon (3%) and Aveiro (1%). Also among the top vacation destinations for Portuguese travelers is the District of Leiria, with 5% of transactions (a 1% decline compared to last year), which welcomed vacationers from the Districts of Lisbon (4%) and Porto (1%).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When analyzing total Portuguese spending exclusively abroad, the share of transactions, by number, was concentrated very significantly in Spain (46%), with 15% of transactions made with cards from the Lisbon District and 11% from the Porto District, followed by France (14%), with 5% of transactions from the Lisbon District and 3% from the Porto District, Italy (7%), with 3% of transactions from the Lisbon District and 2% from the Porto District, Belgium (4%) with 2% of transactions from the Lisbon District and 1% from the Porto District, and Germany (4%) with 2% of transactions from the Lisbon District and 1% from the Porto District.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Overall spending in July and August increased by 6% in terms of the number of transactions (withdrawals and purchases) and by 3% in value, compared to 2025.
