SIBS once again participated in the Web Summit as the Exclusive Cashless Event Partner, ensuring digital payments throughout the event, which took place from 10 to 13 November in Lisbon. This year’s participation was marked not only by the operation of the entire cashless infrastructure – with over 250 terminals distributed across 80 points of sale and 55 merchants – but also by leading a European debate on sovereignty and innovation in payments, reinforcing SIBS’s position as a sector leader.
Analysing the operations within the Web Summit venue, SIBS recorded 64,466 transactions (-18% compared to 2024) with an average ticket of €13.07 (+6% compared to 2024). In the 2024 edition, 78,226 transactions were made with an average value of €12.30.
At Web Summit 2025, cards from 115 different nationalities were registered, with 72% of the purchase and withdrawal transactions carried out by foreign nationals. In the top countries of origin, the United Kingdom again took first place, accounting for 11.7% of foreign transactions, followed by Germany (8.1%), the USA (6.4%), Spain (6.2%), and Brazil (6.1%).
Across the three days of the event, lunchtime (1 p.m.) was the period with the highest volume of transactions. The first day, 11 November, stands out with 6,169 transactions, followed by 5,044 transactions on 12 November at the same time. The last day, 13 November, recorded 3,502 transactions at 1 p.m.
The event had a positive impact on the economy of the Lisbon district, particularly in terms of foreign card transactions. Data provided by SIBS Analytics shows that, focusing solely on foreign card operations, the value of transactions increased by 6.4%, and the number of transactions grew by 10.2% compared to the previous week.
The hospitality sector leads in terms of activity by foreign nationals, accounting for +43% of the total number of purchases. Supermarkets follow with +20% of transactions, and Transport services with +4%. As for the average ticket, it was €33 in total. If we isolate only the foreign card data, this average value was also €33, representing a €1 decrease in both cases compared to the week before the Web Summit.
