In a period marked by the fight against the coronavirus pandemic, global consumption in Portugal fell by 9%. Foreign card operations fell by 48% compared to 2019. Portuguese consumption lessened this effect, as it fell only by 3%.

The data profiles the Portuguese national tourist through consumption variation in Portuguese regions compared to 2019. In fact, in the summer of 2020 there was an increase in consumption in interior regions relative to coastal regions. Considering the value of operations by region relative to 2019, the most significant growth happened in Manteigas (34%), Terras de Bouro (16%), Porto Santo (5%) and Grândola (3%).
